When dogs are left out on the streets, they find refuge in places where they feel the safest. They live in parks, on someone else’s yard, and sometimes, in vacant lots. But on Rufus’ case, he felt safest in an elementary schoolyard.
Rufus is an adorable Spaniel-Beagle mix. But for some reason, he lacks love. His former owner abandoned him, and now without a home or a family.
Fortunately, though, a concerned individual reached out to Hope For Paws. JoAnn Wiltz and Kattie McKittrick were the ones who headed out to rescue Rufus. At the scene, they saw the pup cringed in a very tight spot.
JoAnn tried to gain Rufus’ trust by offering him some food. He ate the pieces of the cheeseburger, but he remained hidden. He didn’t know he could trust them.
The rescuers secured the area by placing some plastic fencing. Because it was tough reaching him, JoAnn decided to secure him with the gentle snare. Then slowly, she pulled him out of his hiding.
Rufus felt terrified. She fought back and tried to escape. But a little assurance and a few pats on the head from JoAnn helped him realize that he is safe with them.
JoAnn carried Rufus in her arms, placed a leash around him, and removed the tight collar on his neck. Then, they loaded him into the cage and went straight to the hospital.
At the rescue center, Rufus received a soothing bath and much-needed medical attention. He is so happy to finally be clean. And he couldn’t wait to start a new life with his new family.
Two weeks after his rescue, Rufus left for his foster home. L.A. Animal Rescue agreed to take him in while he waits for his new family to come. Let’s help Rufus live the life that he deserves.
