How to Increase Sales Using a Sense of Urgency: Offer a Limited-Time Deal

How to Increase Sales Using a Sense of Urgency: Offer a Limited-Time Deal

John Soulliere November 14, 2021

A strong motivator might be a sense of urgency. A motivator in both business and life. Consider offering limited-time bargains, especially ones that last little more than a few days at most, to take advantage of speed in business. Have an email list to send out many more reminders to your subscribers on the last day about the deadline. You’ll typically get the majority of your sales on the last day! Another fantastic method to emphasise this is to use countdown clocks. The concept is similar to furniture businesses that always appear to have weekend sales… even though we all know they’ll probably have another sale in a week or two, we’re more likely to buy now rather than later if we think there’s a sale on it now. People enjoy procrastinating.

We call the 3 Day Money Maker or the 1, 2, 3 Limited Time Offer a limited time offer strategy is a significant marketing trick that we’ve developed over the years and has made us a lot of money. It is very effective if you have an email list and notify them of the special offer.

This is how it goes. You create a limited-time offer (preferably a 50% discount or a significant bonus to go along with it) that only lasts three days. This is usually started on a Thursday or Friday and ends at midnight on Saturday or Sunday (either Saturday or Sunday night). You just email your list once on the first day to announce the special discount and provide them with a link to the deals page where you may buy it, and so forth. You then inform them that the bargain will expire at 12 a.m. on X Day (three days from then). You’ll probably receive a few sales at first, but not a lot of them. You send them two emails the next day: one in the morning and one later in the afternoon or evening. You’ll probably receive few, if any, sales that way, but that’s fine. The true magic occurs on the third day. You email them three times on the third day, which is the last day of the sale: once in the morning, once in the mid-to-late afternoon, and once in the late evening. Subject lines like “Final Chance – 50% Off Deal Ends Today” and “Only Hours Left to Save $5” should heighten the sense of urgency or “Final Notice — Deal Ends in a Couple Hours” (they don’t have to be exact, but you get the point).

Typically, the final day, especially the last hour or two of the special offer, will see a lot of sales, especially in the closing minutes of the special offer. In fact, we’ve discovered that if you leave the offer up until the morning, you’ll receive a slew of sales in the small hours of the morning from people who think they got the discount shortly after it was supposed to shut. As a result, some firms can generate more money in a few days than they might in several weeks or longer if they use this strategy exactly as we described.
Consider how you may make a limited-time offer that customers will only be able to take advantage of if they act quickly. People are more likely to buy when they have a sense of urgency. If you have an email list, keep reminding people about the deadline since most sales will come on the last day or two before the deadline.
