Have you ever thought of what all of these beautiful balloons do once they are released?
into the air? I’ll admit that for a very long time, I didn’t.
Everyone goes about their daily business, enjoying life and observing important occasions, whether they are happy or sad. I recently received the fantastic news that I had become a mother again. The birth of a child is always a reason to celebrate, but I won’t be getting any balloons.
So many reasons are there to use balloons? Well, there are births, memorials, water balloons, gender reveals, and grand openings. There is always cause to rejoice at a child’s birth, but I won’t be receiving any balloons. As many motives exist as there are seconds in a day.
So why do I have a beef with balloons? Well, I don’t hate balloons. However, I do have a beef with the after-effects of how we as people use them. Where do we think that beautiful balloon just released into the sky in memory of a loved one is going? Is ìt somehow going to get to where in heaven we hope our loved one is? No, it will eventually pop and fall to earth,
Some unlucky animal, ocean dweller, or bird may find it and ingest it. Let that thought sink.
Just a minute.
If the poor unfortunate living being is lucky, it’ll just pass through their digestive system with no issue. However, that is the best scenario; what happens if it goes wrong?
Perhaps the ribbon is still attached, and it gets into the intestines and gets trapped and wound around the intestine. If lucky, a vet can get it out before it strangles the intestine, killing it and making the animal septic, which in turn causes severe pain before taking the life.
Another scenario could be the balloon getting stuck in the throat, causing suffocation.
How hard would it be for a child to watch their best friend die in their arms? How do you explain that a balloon meant to remember a loved one has now taken their best friend from them? Even worse, how would you explain that all that fun they had from their water balloons caused their pooch to die because the balloon pieces weren’t picked up. The guilt they would feel would be
immense.
So do I hate balloons? No, but I do want people to use them responsibly. Learn the dangers of not using them in a safe and responsible way and then dispose of them safely and efficiently.
Thank you and I sincerely hope that by writing this I can at least save one land animal or reptile, one water animal or reptile, or one bird.
Safe ballooning.
