The most pleasing thing I’ve discovered for training my dog is clicker training. So, what exactly is it? It’s just incentives and positive reinforcement, but at a pace that the dog understands.
Clicker training is simply employing a valuable marker to alert a dog that he’s done something you like at the exact moment the sound marker is made, followed by a reward. We are usually too sluggish with our incentives for the dog to understand exactly what we are giving; thus training may be tedious for both of you. The sound marker — generally a click with a metal clicker that makes a steady and prominent sound — signals to the dog when you observe something you like and that he will be rewarded for that movement or action. It’s a far more direct method of connecting with your customers.
Clicker training is a fantastic approach to ask, not tell, a dog what you want, to create trust, and to foster creative thinking and problem solving for both you and your dog by persuading a dog to find out what you want with a positive reward. Clicker training has proven to be the most effective method for training my dog. He’s driven by food, enjoys solving issues (even the one of figuring out what I’m asking him to accomplish), and thrives on positivity. Any negative stimulus, such as a “No” or an attempt to physically manipulate him, causes him to shut down entirely. Negative reinforcement, forcing or pushing them into position, or being frustrated by their misunderstanding does nothing to help them comprehend, and it certainly does nothing to establish trust and a productive partnership. You could receive some results in the end, but it will be at a cost. With clicker training, most dogs will comprehend what you’re asking much faster and respond with more enthusiasm.
So, are you ready to begin your clicker training? Here are some of the greatest videos I’ve seen (and utilised) for teaching my dog basic instructions using the clicker. But this is only the beginning! These YouTube channels contain a wealth of additional films that cover more particular issues and teach more sophisticated techniques. I searched for “Clicker train my dog to” and found videos that have assisted me in teaching my dog to do anything from crawling on his tummy to doing handstands to balancing on uneven surfaces.
Let’s start with Kikopup, one of my favourite channels. This trainer includes a large library of films for various activities and explains actions in a gradual, step-by-step manner that helps you comprehend the why behind the how. Here are some helpful videos to get you started:
